Happy Bastille Day. July 14th is the France’s National Holiday. It is “renommé” that I am a Francophile of “passionné”!!!!
This Summer, Americans have been reminded through popular works of the gifts and favors France has given to us as a free Nation. Mostly notably, “The Greater Journey”, by David McCullough, (which is on my reading list), and Woody Allen’s Film, “Midnight in Paris”. These works remind us that is not just military alliances that have brought France and America together. France has also served as a vitally important cultural resource to many influential Americans.

Of course, the Franco-American relationship has been at times, strained and challenged….but given our shared commitment to democracy and rights and long time military, economic and cultural ties, I would like to wish my French Friends, “Happy Bastille Day”!!!Â

Celebrate by slathering your baguette with a chunk of Brie and raising a glass of Perrier (hey, no Champagne here, I am good Mormon girl). Give a toast to our oldest and most gallant (and might I add cultured) ally.Â

Happy Celebrating all you Francophiles!!Â
au revoir – GTC
