Au Revoir Mes French Furniture Friends
Good bye to my French Furniture Friends! I am a francophile through and through, but I am shaking things up a bit in my decor. I decided it is time to purchase true NEW furniture, well, only one piece. We have had this beautiful Settee for years, it has migrated all over my front room. I loved the way it was originally, but it was begging for a makeover.
It was the very 1ST piece of furniture we bought when we signed on the dotted line for our home. Le problem? It is extremely uncomfortable, and really has only served as a great spot for taking photos…….
We have grown up a bit since this photo…..
And learned to sit a bit more lady like…
Comb our hair (even if it looks odd…)
And go to our first formal, is she really this old?
And here, just before the (gasp) paint job….
The wood had been chewed on a few times by my then puppy dog. It was a fakey finish over wood. I had no qualms painting it. One coat of Black Chalk based paint was all it took.
Deux
Trois, Fini!!!
And here she went for sale….she lasted only about 5 minutes.
I have updated things quite a bit around here since this Settee Sold. It has since been replaced with Bench Made From Junk. Check that out HERE.
And a REAL new couch sits in my living room! If you want a laugh (or just want to feel normal) take a look at my annual “Keeping it Real Holiday Tour” where you can see more of my French Furniture friends, or not.
This post originally aired a long time ago. The 8th grader going to the 8th grade grad dance is now going to Senior Ball. The little people on the bench will be in High School next year, and that French Settee? It has been at its new home for a long time now.
Thanks for keeping up with me. If you enjoyed this post, check out my Projects Gallery for more fun inspiration and French Furniture makeovers.

Oh my gosh, gorgeous piece, I am jealous of that new owner! I have the perfect spot for it in my house!!! Love the graphite paint color, and the pillows!!
And how cute are your kiddos on it through the years? I am verklempt just looking at them grow up right before my eyes (and I've never even met them!) 🙂
It's hard to let go but exciting to bring in new things. I bet it was extra hard because it turned out très magnifique.
Wow. Our kids grow too, too fast! Seeing it in photos like that probably really brought that home 😉
Much luck at your booth. You are so talented. I love your style.
Beautiful transformation! I had the same mix of sadness and smiling at your kids. I've recently come across some old photos of our daughter…. Too fast! *sigh*.
Tres magnifique mon cherie!
What a unique piece! Why didn't you want to keep it? You did a nice job refinishing it though 🙂
