Welcome to Trashy Tuesday, and WOOOWEEEE are we talking trash today!!! This is the kind that even stinks!
A few weeks ago while out on one of my trash “hunts”, I discovered a NEW dumpster with good stuff! I found not one, but TWO dressers that needed some serious TLC but they had good “bones”
Only one got a makeover to date, and what a makeover it was!
It was brown, dirty, and really, really old. In fact, I wasn’t sure it was worth saving, but my BIG heart for junque decided to give it another life. I literally had to reinforce every side and glue every drawer. There was much puttying, sanding and clamping going on. Because the bottom of the dresser was not in great condition, I decided to add big chunky blocks and casters to it.
(sorry, this is my 1st before pic, my little dresser was too ashamed to show the real before)
The bottom drawer was…..sadly DOA. It could not be saved. It went the way of the dump, but the space where the drawer sat was reincarnated to hold baskets. I took the runner that held the drawer, added a piece of MDF for a drawer bottom, and found two baskets that would fit the space.
It came with some super cool knobs, I left them as is.
After everything was tightened and spiffed up, it was time for the makeup.
How fun would it be to have drawers you could write on? I thought this piece would make a great stand in for a buffet, or extra storage. The drawers were painted in chalkboard paint, I had two baskets that were sprayed out in black, and I then I finished the piece by using only ONE COAT of CeCe Caldwell’s “Simply White”. A nice sanding with 320 grit, a little wipe down and some CeCe wax, and I have a new fun piece! It went off to Paris Flea Parking Lot Sale with me, where it only made it to about 2:00 p.m. before it found a new home.
Here are some fun pics from the sale, it was a record breaking sales event, and I can’t wait for our next one!

Love the casters and the original hardware! Someone is going to love writing all over this thing! And they could use it to store all their art supplies!

Hey Girly! Everything looks amazing but I had to chuckle a little at the back drop of excavators.
Love this makeover — wouldn’t this be great in a kid’s room or playroom? The sale looks awesome — glad it was such a success!!

Seriously, and I can’t make one project a week and get a blog post done! I’m in no danger of being called an overachiever.

Record breaking sales? Woo-double-Hoo for you! That is a great makeover!
I’m not surprised that baby sold right away! Too cute …. and I just love the chalkboard painted doors! Genius! Seriously. Now I’m looking around for a piece of furniture that I can slap some chalkboard on!

I should have grabbed it when I first saw it! This was a great piece.
Very cool makeover! I’m sure that dresser is just overjoyed with its new life!
I love the dresser and YAY for a successful weekend!!!
Saw your feature on The Shabby Nest. I love the chalk paint drawers! It exactly what I wanted to do with one of my sister’s dressers (she was using Avery labels!). Great job!
I’m just wondering…I love the idea of redoing furniture and have thought about this as a hobby that could make additional income. With all that you do, are you making it work for you as a PT or FT income?
Thanks,
Becca
