Do you remember this cabinet I found a few months ago?  This was courtesy of an apartment dumpster.  It was actually sitting right next to it.  It must have been freshly dumped, because when I picked it up, it still contained a bag of cereal, and a banana!  I passed on the breakfast, but took the cabinet home.

I saw rolling cart with this one. To start with, it needed some cosmetic repair.  There was a big hole in the back, quite unsightly.

Since this was to be a roll around cart, she needed to look good from every angle.  I added a thin piece of MDF to the back, and then inserted panels between the shelves on the front, so the hole disappeared.

I had enough scrap wood leftover from a client project.  I cut it to fit the top of the cabinet, and the kick plate below.

After I cut each piece, I did a “dry fit” to see which pieces fit best together.  Next, I secured  the scrap wood with Gorilla wood glue and wood screws.   I used Wood filler for the screw holes. After the glue dried, I sanded the entire top thoroughly, to soften all the edges.

I applied a very generous amount of Walnut Stain.  Since the stain did not take evenly to where the wood filler was, I darkened these areas with my Modern Masters go to….Coffee Bean Colorant.

For the moveable part.  I turned the piece upside down.  Added blocks of scrap wood in the corners, again using Gorilla Wood Glue (this stuff is tough!), and securing the casters with screws.

Now for the fun part! I painted the entire piece with CeCe Caldwell’s Virginia Chestnut, nice and watered down, so it spread evenly everywhere. This could be the worst “during” picture ever taken.

When this was dry, I used Mississippi Mud.  Another one of my favorite “Neutrals”, and goes great with Virginia Chestnut.  I waxed the entire piece with clear wax, then added a generous helping of clear wax I had tinted with Modern Masters Coffee Bean Colorant.

For the top, When this was dry, I added Ce Ce Caldwell’s 100% natural Satin Finish.  Did you know they make this??  It is the only clear coat available that is 100% natural.  So nice to work with it, no chemically smell, and, it is really durable.  Now it will hold up to food, and wiping down too.

PS I made the curtain from a drop cloth remnant and added a graphic from The Graphics Fairy (Check HERE for how to), and hung it with a cafe rod.
