Happy Monday!  Before I get to my Redoux, I just wanted to do one last shameless self-promotion shout out.  I was nominated on Skinny Scoop for one of the top 25 Home Decor Blogs.  If you haven’t yet had a chance, I would SO appreciate you taking a second to head over there and “like” me on their site, under Redoux.  Thanks!!

SKINNY SCOOP

If you have been around these parts for a while, you know I don’t always play by le “rules”, if there were such a set of rules when it comes to painting and furniture.  Especially since I found my beloved CeCe Caldwell’s paints.  It is hard to leave well enough alone, or pick a project that doesn’t require a massive makeover.

However, sometimes the piece is almost perfect to begin with, maybe just needs a good cleaning and perhaps exfoliation?  Case in point, I found this gorgeous desk recently at a school rummage sale.  The top was in poor condition, but miraculously, the rest was quite well preserved.  Here is about where I started:

After some serious cleaning, sanding and wiping clean again, I had a perfect surface.  Instead of using stain, I used Danish Oil, two coats to be exact, to get this beautiful finish. For the drawers, they were almost pristine, they only needed a slight clean and restore with “Howard’s Restore a Finish”,  a miracle product that has stood the test of time!

For the rest of the desk, I used one coat only of CeCe Caldwell’s California Gold. Sanded it smooth with a 320 grit sandpaper, then sealed it 100% natural CeCe Clear Wax.  I changed out the knobs to something more in keeping with the look.

Don’t expect me to stick to the rules for too long, but for this week, I might be walking a more conservative line….

Stay tuned!  In the meantime, my pristine desk is available for sale at our next Paris Flea Market event.  Starts this Thursday!
