Trashy Tuesday, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Le Junque

Welcome to Trashy Tuesday!!!  Trash was blowing all over here in Northern California yesterday.  It was a MAJOR windstorm.  I will get to that in just a minute……but first I have to share the happy parts.

Every year, my friend Holly and I get together at the same place for breakfast in Lafayette, California to celebrate our birthdays.  “Millie’s Kitchen” is where EVERYBODY went for a HUGE home style breakfast when we were growing up together.  It is a little restaurant, in a funny location on a VERY steep hill, which used to be someone’s funky little house.

Anyhow, Holly and I have been the closest of friends for 40 years!  We even went off to college together.  Were room mates in the dorms, then an apartment. After we were both married (Holly two years before me), we lived three doors apart at the same apartment building!   A few years later, we both started families and bought homes in opposite ends of our region.  We live about an hour apart, but we get together for each other’s birthdays, and always as families at Christmas time and the summer when time allows.  This was my birthday breakfast with oldest and dearest friend:

After we had gabbed the entire morning away, it was time to head home.  I decided to make a few stops along the way.  I don’t get to these parts often, and I thought I would investigate the back alleys and (dumpsters) of a few random spots.  My curiosity paid off!  I found this door, (terrible Iphone pic) in a dark corner of a parking lot where there was some scrap wood (I took that too) (Plus the door is upside down)

I also found this very unusual dresser.  I am calling it the “Shingle Dresser”.  It is very solidly built, with dovetail drawers too.  I have plans for it, something like this dresser can be fun.

Now here is where my trashy day actually went to the dump.  When I got home, the wind had literally blown my back yard apart.  My beloved Side Patio with all it’s Junque didn’t look like this.  You can read all about how it normally looks HERE.

Instead, the wind had blown over my wall, knocking over my changing table turned outdoor buffet.  And….a big surprise I was hoping to share next week got knocked over and all the goodies spilled out.  The surprise didn’t break, but the flowers inside of it were smashed and went every which way 🙁

The wall will get fixed and reinforced.  It was a bummer to see it all sad and hanging like that.  It looked like the place had been trashed.

Just thankful I wasn’t standing under it when it gave way!

Hope your week is full of Junque, and only the really junky junque good stuff.

That is wonderful with your friend. I am still in touch with my former college roomie. I miss her terribly. Living in a military town and a military ward, we get people in and out all the time and it’s hard to make good friends, yk? I love your outdoor buffet/changing table! Hopefully your surprise for us will work out 🙂
