Happy 4th of July! Freedom to be Moi, (or just odd)

Good Time Charlie

Happy 4th of July!!!!!  I am so grateful for my freedom.  I am grateful for my freedom every single day.

Today, and the days surrounding our Independence day, I try to take a few moments to think about WHY I am grateful to be free.

The list is endless, as I am sure yours is too.  One of the most amazing things about living in this great country is that we have the freedom to live our lives (within the bounds of laws) as we see fit.  Everyone’s idea of “normal” is different.  My normal is most like not your normal!

Just for fun, I thought I would share the parts of my day that I am grateful for.  I have the freedom to choose how my day will go, what I will do with my time, and how I raise my kids, live in my home, etc.

My list may surprise you, but this gives you a glimpse into my addled brain!

My blender has been technically broken for about a month now.  The blender part has become one with the motor part.  Instead of buying a new blender, (I am too lazy and cheap), it still works, and I just dump the whole thing upside down and try to be careful to not get the motor part wet when I clean it.

By the way, this is what I eat every day for lunch:

Loaded with all kinds of good stuff, and packed with greens, even raw broccoli, I have the freedom to eat this in peace.  (I am too lazy to make a real lunch, I leave it chunky so at least I have something to chew on.  YUMMY!)

I drink it out of this cup, we have a nice collection from each year.

NOTICE IT SAYS “AUGSUT”????  I DIDN’T FEEL LIKE CHANGING IT

I don’t drink it out of this cup.

At any given time, my counter tops look like this:

Dog Hair is the bane of my existence, but I am thankful I am free to have a pet, and name her whatever the heck we wanted to name her.  Her name is Keiki.  Pronounced CAKEE, not KEEKEE

I have hair issues.  As in, my hair is really fine and thin. I have been known to scare small children in the morning with this hair.

This is why I die it pink in the front.  If I can’t have really good hair, at least it can be statement hair.  Glad I have the freedom to choose whatever I want to do with my hair.  (Makeup helps too). Little known factoid: I can get ready from shower to fully dressed, with jewelery, and perfume in 17 minutes flat.
Pink Hair

I have the freedom to celebrate with my family, the very fact that we have freedom.  So many in the world do not, and I don’t want to ever forget this.

Hope you won’t either.  Happy 4th.

You may call it odd. I call it adorable. You are so awesome to show yourself right out of bed, when so many are putting on a perfect face at all times. I couldn’t live without my blender either. Never tried broccoli, but always use spinach.

Love the green lunch from the red blender! I do it too…chunks and all. Just got a ‘Nutri-Bullet’, it is ah-maz-ing! NO green chunks now!!! (this is not a paid announcement! lol)

    Have a happy 4th!!

Love this post Karen. You’re so darn cute, I can hardly stand it. 🙂 And I loved seeing this little glimpse into your life. My counters look very similar, much to hubby’s chagrin. If I start having the same thing for lunch, will I be as tiny as you? hee hee. I’m thankful to have the freedom to sit out on a dock with good friends, watching the boats go by, sipping my cocktail, smelling the burgers and brats the husbands are cooking up for lunch, watching the kids jump in and out of the water, while I catch up on my favorite blogs. Enjoy your day!

On or around the 4th, we frequently think of our many shared freedoms, but not so much about the freedom to be original. Isn’t it ironic that even in this context we still struggle with personal image. We’re uptight about appearances and often forget to relax in the moment and let our hair down. Thanks for the reminder. PS: I bought a hair clipper a few months ago and shaved my hair very short. Total bliss… whatever people may think. A small gesture to claim more freedom.
