Welcome to Trashy Tuesday! I don’t make it a habit to go shopping for accessories whilst I dumpster dive. This week was quite the exception! I was at my secret/favorite dumpster looking for furniture type items. Instead, I found an under the bed storage container with STUFF in it. I needed another one of these for wrapping paper.
You would not believe what was inside. A treasure trove of brand new and nearly new knock off purses and wallets. WEIRD! Almost as weird as the day I found that one person’s weird stuff. You can read about that creepy post HERE.
Decent knock off Chanel wallet. Trust me, if I found a real one, it would not be photographed on this yucky old table.
Maybe knockoff Gucci is more your taste?
How about a Faux Gucci Satchel, BRAND NEW to go with it. (Yes, it is has its back to us)
I don’t believe in wearing white after Labor Day. That fashion rule didn’t apply to my 16 year old daughter. She was thrilled for the new purse!
I had found several things for my girls. What about my son? How about this uber cool sign?
I found the world’s longest couch. I am about 6 feet, and it towered over me. It was slightly awkward when I was standing behind it to get the picture, and an unsuspecting man stopped by to throw out his garbage. This was one of my secret apartment dumpsters, the kind where it is gated. I drive in when someone drives out? You can read all about my methods in my Dumpster Diving Series.
I told him why I was taking the pictures. He found it interesting and called my blog posts about trash, “Art”. That was a validating moment for moi.
I am in the middle of redouxing my Living Room. I love the FREE Midcentury Coffee Table I found a few weeks ago. However, I have been toying with the idea of converting a short Coffee Table to an Ottoman. I found what I needed this morning, and the dimensions are perfect for the space we are planning. It’s like the Universe is reading my mind! Look past the top, it will be covered, and I will of course be adding wheels……
I love little storage items. I am constantly on the hunt for caddies and unique small storage for Paris Flea Market. This painted will be perfect.
And finally, as if I didn’t have enough on my plate…..I found a box of plates and a Pyrex bowl. They were clean too. And no, that is not a giant cockroach on the plate. Some big piece of leaf or something blew into my garage right before I took the picture. Unless I get my craft on with plates, I will be donating these. Much better than them being donated to the dump!
Hope you have a totally trashy week.
More trashy goodness! The guy in the sofa photo is too funny! He’s right, what you do is definitely an art!And I can’t wait to see your new ottoman!
Is it insane that I’m so jealous of your dumpster diving? I keep saying I just need to do it, but then I lose my nerve. Anyway, great finds!! I love reading your blog!
Michelle, just start small. Seriously, after you have tried it once, and it is scary that first time! Then it feels perfectly normal, and pretty soon you are doing this in broad daylight and your kids are long past being mortified and are looking with you. Wait a minute, is this a good thing or a bad thing? I can only imagine what their friends will think when they carry on the tradition (hopefully) at college!
I did it! I didn’t find a thing, but I did a cruise by some apartment dumpsters! I’m no stranger to picking up trash off the curb, but my family is absolutely dead set against being in the car when I do it. Tonight I scored a crib frame on the curb that’s in perfect shape!! So can’t wait to put together one of those great crib benches! 🙂
this may be my favorite post so far, it’s really REAL! I wish I had a camera crew as I would make the most fabulous documentary about you! I recently found a dumpster in an Ace parking lot and as I slowly drove by I saw a giant cushion type “thing” and it was covered in vintage ticking, the real thing! You should have seen the looks on peoples faces as they watched me drag this thing into my car! but nothing matched the expressions on my husbands and sons faces when I showed them my “score”! I thought of you the whole time 🙂
Jayne this is fantabulous!!! I love that other people are putting pride aside and realizing there is no shame, only gain in dumpster diving. What a cool find! Thank you so much for your sweet compliments. You are getting the condensed version of my trashy week. I don’t know that the real thing is so exciting! Dirty, dark and sometimes just blek! But that high I get when I find something? Priceless!
ahh….Love the junk post ..such goodness..such inspiration…You Rock….Sheryl
I love those bins too and grab them whenever I can! My boys would like that sign too – great finds, Karen! 🙂
What a haul! I would love to see what you do with everything you found. Among the plates it looks like there is a plastic cover to use when you want to cover something in the microwave. I love mine, use it all the time.
As always; I love, love, love your Trashy Tuesday. I was lucky and stumbled upon a small media cabinet on the curb; I am hoping to repaint soon. By soon, I mean sometime with the next year lol
If you weren’t’ married with a family I would say that man by the dumpster is your soul mate!
K
I’d be jealous if the man by the dumpster were not a zombie.
You don’t want to know what was in the bag!
cripes you are good! and tall apparently….Love the cubby box. Jealous of that find. I will have to study your methods post and get cracking…
XO, Kim
