Pouf, Upcycle a Pouf in a Poof with nothing but CeCe Caldwell’s Paints.
I love the word Pouf.
Pouf originates from a French word for something inflated. (which I think is funny)
Pouf has come to mean a fancy word for a small ottoman. Whatever the meaning. Here are two Poufs I recently made over with CeCe Caldwell’s Santa Fe Turquoise.
That’s right, I PAINTED THEM! They started out as ho hum dark vinylesque leather.
CeCe Caldwell’s Paints will stick like glue to leather, and vinyl. (Just don’t wax it, your body will warm up the wax).
This project couldn’t have been easier. I opened a can of CeCe Caldwell’s Santa Fe Turquoise, started painting.
POOF, two coats later, I had two completely different looking Poufs than what I had brought home from the Thrift Store.
And guess what else, the lids pop off!
To make these Poufs extra durable, I sealed them with two coats of CeCe Caldwell’s Endurance. You can check my video HERE to see how easy it is to use.
They look great together but can stand on their own with this vibrant color.

You said not to wax – will they crack? I have seen painted upholstery and am not of fan – what is the real life look and feel of this? Do you think it will hold up to feet, kids, use? I love all your creations and look forward to each and every new post – You are one of the truly inventive ones out there and I love how you get your stuff!!

I used Annie Sloan chalk paint on a similar vinyl ottoman. I applied two coats and then waxed it. Turned out stunning. I don’t know why wax is not recommended but my method didn’t create any adverse effects.
Hi Trisha, I would most definitely not wax a piece of furniture. Your body heat can warm up the wax and potentially have the wax rub off on you! CeCe Caldwell’s paints contain no acrylic or Latex, just chalk and two kinds of clay. This makes it bond to whatever surface you are painting. I have seen other things painted that hold up really well. I think it will hold up to plenty of use and abuse!

What a great idea, it would be really good to see them in a few months, just to see how they are standing up to life! But then with all the layers of seal you gave them I expect they will be fine. It seems the trick is to pick the right paint!

Thank you so much Julie! Alison from Refunk my Junk did this first on a Pouf and they hold up great. The paint doesn’t have any acrylic or latex in it, so it really just bonds with whatever surface you are painting and doesn’t have the ability to crack.
