Dumpster Makeover Ficus Tree Trashy Tuesday
You might be asking yourself right now. Ficus Tree? Really? Like those big fake things in a basket that every model home and new apartment, and maybe even (you) had in a corner of your front room? Yep, that very same Faux Ficus Tree that probably still graces the floors in 10 out of 12 Doctor’s waiting rooms. The Dumpster’s are hot with them right now. This Ficus Tree in particular was in good shape, but the basket (bottom part) was falling apart. I am sure the owner could just not see the Future that the Faux Ficus was fixated on.
Lucky for me, I saw a mystical, etherial, metallic and gorgeous vision. To make over this Faux Ficus, I used 2 cans of Spray Primer. 1 can of Metallic Spray Paint in Gold and 1 Can of Metallic Spray Paint in Silver. I like to make sure my thumb matches my projects too.
For the Bucket, I used CeCe Caldwell’s Vintage White, 100% Natural Waxing Cream and one of my favorite CeCe Caldwell’s Enhancements, Bauxite Beige Metallic Wax. Check out my video here on how to spray paint the tree to make it over. There really is a method to getting your Faux Ficus fixed.
Now that your Faux Ficus has had a fabulous makeover, you will need to do something about that ugly basket. I tossed it. If you thought Spray paint was super easy, then you should try CeCe Caldwell’s Paints. It is INSTANT gratification because their products are SO easy to use. Seriously, I do not have some deep artistic talent, but with CeCe Caldwell’s products, I can look like I know what I am doing.
I grabbed an old Galvanized Bucket I used in my Christmas Decor (by the way, check out my Keeping it Real Christmas Tour if you want to play I spy and find it). I painted the bucket with 2 coats of CeCe Caldwell’s Vintage White, smoothed it with a grocery store bag. That’s right. A piece of Grocery Brown Bag is like super find sand paper. I finished it with CeCe Caldwell’s 100% Natural Waxing Cream (check here for my how to on how to use it, super easy, and you use such a small amount) and then Beauxite Beige 100% Metallic Wax.
Check out how easy it was to paint this bucket with CeCe Caldwell’s 100% Natural Chalk + Clay Based Paints:
I love my new Faux Ficus Tree. It looks beautiful in the corner of my office. I am all about Decorating from a Dumpster and upcycling as much junk as I possibly can. I hope you find your own Ficus Tree in a Dumpster soon and can do your own Dumpster Makeover Ficus Tree.
