How to Use Stain over Paint Trashy Tuesday
Oops, I did it again….I went Dumpster Diving and curbside shopping. I have a FIRM belief that if you need something, a piece of furniture, etc…..think about it every time you go out “hunting”. It won’t be long before it will show up. Like this Dresser did!
We were in need of a nightstand upgrade for Suffering Husband. Me, not wanting to buy a NEWISH piece of furniture knew I would find something suitable for free. Sure enough, this broken chest of drawers materialized one morning.
Tip: put the paste on and let dry slightly. Take a damp rag and wipe off the excess. This way, you will need to do little to no sanding to smooth the piece.
Update! I only use Debi’s Design Diary DIY Paint since publishing this post. DIY Paint is 100% Natural, Clay Based, which makes it different from every other chalk paint product. It is perfectly smooth, the colors are beautiful and cover well, even their whites. It paints like liquid Velvet. You won’t believe how good a paint brush and a can of paint can feel. It is ahmazing stuff. Check my side bar if you want to know more. Now onto the project. I used CeCe Caldwell’s 100% Natural Chalk + Clay Based Paints then darkened the color and added an illusion of a wood grain simply by “painting” on and wiping off a Natural Stain.
Check out the full details of how to use paint over stain and makeover this dumpster dresser in my how-to video:
I added an extra layer of protection (and because I like the way a wax finish feels) using CeCe Caldwell’s 100% Natural Waxing Cream.
I love the finished product. It goes perfectly in our bedroom and compliments that gorgeous painting we have over our bed by Nicole Buffet. (More on that later).
