Make a Sign of your Love using an Old Cabinet Door.

Hey friends, this post was originally published about 10 years ago! In honor of my NEW website design that just launched on January 12th, 2023, I am doing a fun giveaway to show you my love, and thank you for reading! The giveaway info will be at the bottom of this post.

Do you need somebody to love? Do you need something to love? Do you remember my JOY sign?

Valentine’s Day is approaching fast.  Make your loved ones this LOVE Sign for your favorite Valentines.

Cabinet door with love redouxinteiors diy paint

Sign of Love from a favorite Queen song

I work hard every day of my life
I work till I ache my bones
At the end I take home my hard earned pay all on my own –
I get down on my knees
And I start to pray
Till the tears run down from my eyes
Lord – somebody – somebody
Can anybody find me – somebody to love? (Queen)

Door before

Just like Freddy Mercury worked hard to sing that song, I worked hard on this project.  I started with this door pulled from something on the curb many months ago.

I painted (well, Emma painted this part) the first layer in DIY Paint in Marquee  . The letters were painted the same.  Next, I painted a thin coat of Vintage Linen and dry-brushed the letters with what was left on my brush.  I used liquid nails to secure them to the board and attached a hanging wire to the back.  Now Love can hang around your house too.

DIY Poster smaller

I LOVE DIY Paint from Debi’s Design Diary.  The colors are rich and current and cover very well. Only nine ingredients! The clay base makes this paint stand head and shoulders above anything else I have used.

It’s amazing how much I love this door after it has been given some love.

Happy Valentines Day. Hopefully, someone will want to show me a sign of their love!

Back Story about my LOVE for DIY Paint

If you are new here, then you may not know how much I love DIY Paint and how much I love sharing it with everyone. Twenty years ago, I began painting furniture for others when only wall paint was available. It was a process of painting furniture, stripping, sanding, priming, then finally painting, only to learn how VERY careful I had to be because it could chip or scratch so quickly, despite my efforts to create a perfect finish.

Ten years later, Chalk Paint came on the market; there was only one manufacturer at the time. It was expensive paint but life-changing. I no longer had to do all that prep work. Now I could skip right to the painting part. The only problem, the paint still had a chemical smell. I wanted to paint pieces inside my home as my kids were still young. I knew in my heart of hearts an American company would learn to make a similar paint and make it green. There were far better green wall paints on the market by now, so I knew this could be done.

Not long after this wish, that paint company that would grow into DIY Paint sent me some paint to try. It was LOVE at first brush stroke. I loved it so much that I started blogging about it, selling it, and eventually went to work for DIY Paint as the wholesale director. Now I would love to introduce you to DIY Paint. It is a Clay Based paint made in Santa Fe, New Mexico. It is the ONLY paint on the market with the unique, 9-ingredient formula. The only paint on the market contains no acrylic, latex, silicone, or other fillers, as every other good and mediocre chalk paint includes one or more of these ingredients.

Because there are none of these filler ingredients, DIY Paint can be manipulated again and with water. When dry, it forms a rock-solid bond with whatever you have painted, and the absence of any plastic-based product makes it virtually impossible to chip or scratch. We have long called it “Magic Paint.”

I too love DIY paint… I bought my first DIY paint from you just last year… This year I plan to venture out with new colors using your techniques on several pieces of furniture I have in storage.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us Newbies on furniture repurposing and taking trash to treasure!😊

🦢I would like the DIY paint ‘white swan’ as I would like to try it with 2 other colors for blending a layered effect.

You see what there is to love in the apparently unlovable… a reminder to remember to see what there is to love in people, beyond what is apparently unlovable.

    Your ideas are so inspiring!

I’ve never used this paint, but it sounds amazing. I’m in the process of redecorating our guest room and this is a great option for updating some of the furniture pieces in the room.

Very excited to try it! I need black for some of the accents, but I’m not sure if Black Velvet or Little Black Dress is the right one!
