Easy French Dresser Makeover

I love sharing how to do an Easy French Dresser Makeover. I love a good French Dresser Makeover. I am a self-described Francophile, meaning I love all things French style and culture. Who knows where that came from, but it has been my passion and love since I was a preteen.

Few things give me more satisfaction than taking an old piece of furniture and giving it a new life with DIY Paint and some IOD enhancements. It’s like making magic transpire before your eyes and a paintbrush.

When I have the opportunity to create a French Style Dresser makeover, I am in heaven.

The Easy French Dresser Makeover Before The Makeover

I bought this piece from Facebook Marketplace for a song. It needed love. I got to work cleaning and sanding it, then applying one coat of DIY Paint Salvation Solution to keep any of the weird stains from bleeding through. Salvation Solution can be especially helpful when you have sanded an old piece and maybe “woken up” something in the stain that might threaten to bleed through your paint.I don’t always use Salvation Solution. Most of the time, I go right in with DIY Paint over the piece, as it sticks beautifully to any surface. No sanding or priming is needed to get it to grip. However, for this French-style dresser, there were dings and scratches that needed to be fixed before moving on with the Dresser Makeover.

Sometimes, when you set out to makeover an old dresser or piece of furniture, what you have in your head doesn’t always translate to what comes out on your brush. In this case, I started with DIY Paint in Vintage Linen and then got stuck.

I found this inspiration photo on Pinterest from Edith and Evelyn.

And I instantly knew that was the look I wanted. I painted over the Vintage Linen with DIY Paint in Skeleton Key, I knew I wanted a soft blended look similar to what I saw in the inspo picture. I used DIY Paint in Faded Burlap, which plays well with all the DIY Paint colors and Tarnished Pearl.

Remember Martha Stewart? She used to always say, “The details make the difference.” She is right! It’s the little details that will make your French Dresser Makeover swoon. I added a toile-patterned drawer liner, painted the sides of the drawers, and added more of the Iron Orchid Designs Inlays that I used on the front.

To add some extra flare and depth and achieve an authentic Old Word French Dresser Makeover look, I added a little DIY Paint Dark Wax over the clear wax I used to finish it and a little dry brushing of gold to make the details of this French Dresser.
