My fabulous client Marja has amazing taste. She plays by my rules when it comes to decorating. NO rules. She goes with what speaks to her, whether it is formal elegance or a laid back "Beach driftwood" theme. She leans to the French Countryside in both the exterior and interior of her home. Having grown up not far from the beautiful beaches of Southern California, she has allowed me to bring some of her favorite elements into her home. L'ENTREE This is a lovely table, and almost seemed a shame to touch it, but it was a bit lackluster, so we gave it a "redoux" treatment to punch it up a bit. Here it is with a personal touch, lighter color, red dry brush, cream accents dry ...

No it’s not stain, it’s a glaze, and other true life glaze stories
Here is a lovely little Oak Side Table. You may even have one of these in your home, or see it often. The details are cute, but the grain and stain is just a bit well, shall we say, 1980ish? Not that I have anything against Oak, but it has it's place, and it's place doesn't belong on this cute table. You don't want to paint it, but you don't want that Oak look anymore? What to do? Well......remember our old friend Glaze? Glaze is the new magical makeover of the Redoux world. Glaze can be mixed in a variety of colors, layered to perfection. See Glaze cabinet here. Glaze can age something to look like a true Antique, See Buffets and such, give it a new life, to look like ...

A Humble little chest goes all glam
This is a cute little entry chest I did for a client. It was kind of ho hum, but longed to be more glamorous: A coat of Sherwin Williams Krypton Grey, a light touch of Coffe Bean glaze, and a quick spray of Silver to those cute knobs, (then go back over the knobs with Steel Wool to give them some patina). Mr. Demille, I am ready for my closeup now! She was thrilled. There is more to this room, coming soon! PS I linked up with Miss Mustard Seed Furniture Friday, check her button or click here ...
How to turn your dresser into a bookshelf
How to turn your dresser into a bookshelf If you ever come across a dresser missing drawers, like this one, don't despair! You can turn it into a bookshelf. I started by taking the top drawer supports out. Sometimes they "pop" right out, sometimes you have to bring in the big guns. Next, I laid the dresser down flat and brought in my reciprocating saw, cut through the wood where it was attached at the front of the dresser. Once I cut through the wood, I had to use a Hammer and Chizle to pop out the rest. Now I was left with this, This is what I took out, the guts: Next, I measured the inside, left side, right side, and bottom, and cut pieces the same dimensions ...
Oak Bathroom Redoux
These bathroom cabinets were your standard Golden Oak. A great way to update all the Oak in your home is to use my Glaze fix. With this finish you can achieve a rich Cherry look, a dark English Walnut, or a more standard lighter wood. When I am finished, you will never know it is Oak under the glaze. You will be amazed at the transformation! What a difference a Glaze Makes! ...
Trash to Treasure
A benefit of being a constant "redouxer" is that people are always calling you for "free" things they either have and want to get rid of, or something they saw on the side of the road. I have not been above piling my children into the car at the crack of dawn to score that free child's antique chair someone saw the night before on their way home from a party! Recently I had to have two doors made for my home and when I went around to the back of the warehouse, there was a free to me conference chair for my son's room, to go with his "free" desk. Here are some before and after pics of my "free to me's". There are more "frees" awaiting my attention in my home, will post as they get ...

On a different note…..Painted Piano and Bench
The two weeks off, turned into a bit more! I am back with a few tidbits. Then off again for a bit more rest. All will be well soon. I have some beautiful kitchens, baths and whimsical furniture on my calendar, so stay tuned for more! For now, painting this old piano has been on my "to do" list since it was given to us 7 years ago! I am thrilled with the results. Painting your piano need not be a big deal. I did this in it's current place, with minimal mess. It now looks as beautiful as it sounds. Now that is a tune I can get used to!This is our annual family Christmas Party. The piano gets put to good use during the talent show. Notice the talented family singing 'round ...
Backed into a corner
Not long after we bought our current home, my handy friend and I built some nice "cubes" for a built in for my kitchen table nook. I created some adorable pillows and pads to adorn the space, but with time, my children put their own stamp on the space with vegetables conveniently lodged between the pillows and the bench (great hiding place!), spilled beverages from time to time and other mysterious items that eventually became one with the "corner". I decided it was time for a "redoux" of the corner so I repurposed the "cubes" (look for Backed into a corner part two next week!) and built anew. My children are older and wiser (as am I!) and the second time around let's hope will be my ...
