Trashy Tuesday, What the Junk? Happy Trashy Tuesday! It's been some time since I have share some of my amazing Dumpster Finds and Road Side Rescues! I haven't stopped my trashy ways, I have just been BUSY! As Retail Director for DIY Paints, Retailer of DIY Paints at Consignment Envy in Brentwood, CA and a full house with College kid home, it's been awesome, but a little nutty. Oh, and did I mention we also got a new dog? Enough about my junk, let's get to the real junk, as in what the junk have I found recently? I actually saw this chair dumpee heading towards the Dumpster with this chair. I pulled over in the parking lot and just waited.....As soon as it left his ...

How To Get The Chippy Paint Look
Get the Chippy Paint look using Debi'S Design Diary DIY Paint and a surprising little tool. I am in the process of switching from a PC to my MacBook. In that process, somehow all my before and during pictures disappeared. SIGH. Cest la vis. Use your imagination. Plain brown table, good bones, needs some love. I wanted to make a fun statement on a little piece. And, I wanted control the chip factor! To achieve the perfect chippy look, go no further than the canning section of your grocery store. That's right. You need canning wax, which is about as cheap of a tool you will ever get. It is sold in big blocks, and for a chippy project, you will use only a small amount. ...
How To Turn A Farm Table to A Plank Table
Did you recently see a well loved mini van pulled over on the side of the Highway, a woman in skirt and heels, risking life and limb to pick up a filthy pile of wood planks? Did you think "that woman is nuts", or that poor woman, "look a load of wood fell out of her minivan and she has nice clothes on, and now has to get all dirty to pick them up". ......Well, that woman was moi! I found the planks through a hot tip I had received from a friend and client. Email comes in, just prior to running my car pool to dance, "pile of wood planks off Hwy 4", on gravel, enough room to pull over and pick up". My heart started beating like I was gearing up for a race. You never know, someone ...
Turn Trashy Books into Treasured Items
Before I share pictures and this post with you I have a disclaimer. No literature was harmed in this project. All books that were altered were not only dumpster dive finds but were the probably trash for the mind as well.....Not that they were THAT kind of trash, I go to the Dumpster not the Gutter! But don't they look gorgeous now! Painting and antiquing books that were not serving much purpose in their current state could be my new favorite project. This is the kind of project where you see Debi's Design Diary DIY Paint make magic Gold Patina and Dark and Decrepit Patina. I (painful part here) tore the spines off the books. Just like pulling off a bandage, do it all at once and it ...
21 Ways to Upcycle a Chair
Happy Trashy Tuesday! Well whatever day it is...in the Spirit of Trashy Tuesday.... Over the years I have found more of one type of furniture than any other. CHAIRS! Why? I think Chairs are a conundrum for people. They can be hard to paint, or if a spindle breaks, or comes loose, it takes time and patience to fix them. You May Also Like: Two Wrongs don’t make a Right, But Black and White Chairs Make a Bench! Sometimes I find the chairs in perfectly good condition, maybe they just got separated from the pack and trying to establish their independence from the Dining Set. (Haha) At any given moment (and especially this moment) I have more chairs than I know what to do with. About half of ...
Master Bathroom Makeover How To Paint a Sub Floor
Master Bathroom Makeover How To Paint a Sub Floor And...I had ZERO budget. You got that right. ZERO budget to makeover of my Master Bathroom. I wanted a Farm House look and I had to get very creative with everything I had on hand. Paints, glazes, and the biggest conundrum of all, what to do with the floor when we pulled up that awful carpet. The first thing I did was make those "what was I thinking" bright yellow walls disappear. I painted them in Sherwin Williams Repose Grey. (Which I had quite a bit of from another project). **Update, since this post writing I no longer use CeCe paints. Some of the colors and products I used are no longer available. I have found ...
Spray it Don’t Say it. Spray Paint Leather That Is.
Spray it Don't Say it. Spray Paint Leather that is. Did you know you can spray paint leather??? This Silver Chair once resided in a woman's house who sadly, smoked three packs of cigarettes a day, for at least 30 years, as long as she lived in the house, with the windows shut! My neighbor gave them to me, when said aunt passed away. I diligently cleaned with almost a gallon of TSP (not joking), and then the process began. I Painted the frame in a lovely Antique White, then glazed with a mix of Glaze and Coffee Bean Craft Paint. The Upholstery got a makeover with Paint! Yes, you can spray paint Leather, just go really, really slowly. As in, ONE LIGHT COAT at a time, and build up to ...
How to Turn a Bookshelf Into a Rolling Cart
How to Turn a Bookshelf Into a Rolling Cart Did you know that a mediocre 2 shelf Bookshelf is one of the most versatile pieces of furniture? You can do so many things with one of those! I mentioned last Trashy Tuesday I received a very burned bookshelf from my friend who had a fire above her garage. The bookshelf needed a lot of cleaning, structurally, it was still sound. Just not looking too attractive. In fact, my friends couldn't believe I wanted it! I knew right away I wanted to turn it into a rolling cart. That is one of the best things you can do with any short bookshelf. I turned it over, cut off the peg legs and then screwed ...
Trashy Tuesday Free Furniture of 2017
Trashy Tuesday New Years Resolutions Happy Tuesday! If you have been around here awhile, it's been a while since you have heard from me! This doesn't mean I have stopped my trashy habits of Dumpster Diving or Upcycling. I just haven't shared in a while because 2017 was busy! Here's a recap of some of the my favorites from 2017. I rescued this bookshelf from a friend who had a terrible fire. After cleaning out what was left of the room above their garage, they let me take the bookshelf home with me. It turned into a rolling cart with reclaimed fence boards framing it out. More on that coming soon. I also found this Dresser at.....I seriously cannot remember. All I ...
Trashy Tuesday Trashy Makeovers
Trashy Tuesday Trashy Makeovers It's been a while! And oh my, do I have a lot of junk to trash talk with you. Do you remember Actually, it's a twin. I found 2 of them a few months ago when someone in my neighborhood was moving. They so nicely left a whole bunch of trash in a Giant Dumpster and these 2 buckets were things I pulled out. I painted them using the The Turquoise Iris method. At DIY Paint, we call it #Do The Dionne. Dionne of The Turquoise Iris is a master at blending DIY Paint with a water bottle and a few tricks. I painted this bucket with DIY Paint in Summer Crush, Marquis and Queen Bee. I used a Water Bottle to make the paint blend, while it was still ...
Trashy Tuesday Upscale Junking
Trashy Tuesday Upscale Junking What is Upscale Junking you might ask? It is actually looking for junk in a "reputable" business establishment. One where a form of currency changes hands between the junker and the junkee. I just made that up, but it explains the difference perhaps between Dumpster Diving, which you can read all about in my 3 part series HERE. And actually "going junking", that is, frequenting junk stores. I recently had the opportunity to do some upscale Junking with some fabulous DIY Paint retailers from Alaska! Sue Mann of Artzy Junkin and Abbey Ulen. Abbey works with Sue and has her own amazing artwork, check it out HERE. Abbey and Sue came down to the San ...
