The Office is slowly but surely coming along. Having items organized, paperwork filed, and creating a system for things I will be dealing with again and again is truly helping me get life under control.
I have slowly been moving things down from my computer upstairs, which is the “communal” area, and allows any child to freely express their opinions to me at any time that I might be trying to concentrate, finish a bill, do an estimate, or write a proposal. Ergh. Â
I have been slowly, steadily creating a space where my entire family can come and relax, read a book, or hang out, (when I am not in here working). Â
I got this old door for free from Craigs List. I knew I wanted to incorporate it into my scheme. I finally settled on using it for a bulletin board/vision board of sorts. Â
I dry brushed it with my abundant “free” google paint from a lovely client. Waxed it with my favorite antiquing wax, and distressed the finish here and there to give it an old “barn door” sort of feel.
I decided to divide my new vision board into different categories. Life, (and below it, necessary business items, Goals, monthly, yearly and 5 years, “Ideas”, Words to Live By, and “Money”. Â
I followed Miss Mustard Seed’s business advice and dreamed BIG! If you are thinking of starting a business, I highly recommend her business section. She has amazing advice, tips and wisdom of how to get going, even a teeny weeny, non-existent budget.
Here is the piece in entirety:
And Sections:
Life ideas at top in Bright Orange, then the necessary business licenses. No one but me will see them, but it makes me feel “official” to display them in a “prominent spot” as it says on the document. Whatever….
I picked up these wonderful cards at a unique store while visiting my sister in Boise. I have never had a space to display them, so they are here for now. At least I can see them and enjoy them.
Monthly, Yearly and 5 Year Goals
I hope to be seeing this tag on my pieces all the time!
I have an endless file of ideas, this needs to be edited down. I also will be adding inspirational things in this area, things I want to attain to, make me feel good, you get the picture (get it????)
I have quotes, and favorite words here, everything is lightly applied with a glue stick, so it can be changed when I want to. Below is my Money area. I dreamed BIG here. Probably should get to work soon if I want this to happen.
Dry Erase board holds the current projects for me and this weeks
“Must do’s”
“Must do’s”
I ordered the Color Chart from Annie Sloane Chalk Paint/ Like most of you, I am a very visual person. I need to see the colors to help my ideas come to fruition when I am thinking about new projects. Putting this away in a file, then taking it out when I begin a new project does not work for me. Also, a sheet on great ideas for mixing colors is displayed.
Finally, I need help. These are all the many cords that attach to my various electronic devices. Ah, quel désordre! as you can see. Please someone help! Give me your tips on how you keep your cords organized. I need it! Â
Don’t forget, it’s Wednesday, check below to see where I am linking up! There are parties o’plenty!Â
And be sure to come back here Friday to link up your fabulous Redoux and see the features from last week’s party
I love what you did with the door. You know those clips that you attach and then they open and close on papers? Do you have them on the door also? Just an idea…But, you have great ideas and to put them up where you can see them is a great idea in itself.
That is just what this drab little office needs – so wonderful Karen!
As to the cords – zip ties are my friend.
Wallyworld, and other retailers no doubt, has a selection of velcro tapes for binding your folded and organized individual electronic cords. I usually use cable ties and have been known to use toilet paper rolls, but that last works best if the roll is fully packed with wiring.
I don’t know how she does it, but someone I visited in New England has no cords anywhere and her printer is in a different room than the cordless computer and keyboard. Gotta be magic, is what I think. Or she lives in a more tech-y place than do I, here in the southern mountains.
