Trashy Tuesday Good Things Come in Cans
Good things come in cans. Garbage cans, recycled cans, cans of paint….
I like cans. All kinds of cans. Usually there is something good that may be found inside a can of paint. The shape of tin cans are fantastic for upcycling for other uses. I used to make these and sell them as gifts. There is a paper white bulb in soil in the can.
My most favorite experience with cans was during the height of the economic recession. I was outside at about 5 in the morning moving our giant bag of recycling. We had been collecting cans for months to take the local recycling for some cash. I saw someone at the end of my court with a head lamp on. The person appeared to be going through people’s trash cans. When I realized he was looking for cans to recycle, I gave him our bags and bags of cans. It was an incredible experience, one I will never forget. This man was so grateful for just the cans, using the extra cash to make ends meet for his family. You can read more about that here in Junk Love.
My daughter Rachel made this Office Catch all can for me for Easter several years ago. It still makes me smile every time I look at it. “Chillin with my peeps”, get it?? I also have a can I use to store my paint pens. Yep, it’s not painted. I figure there is enough color inside the can.
I really LOVE these garden cans. We have grown Cilantro and now Basil in them. At our dinner table, it’s “please pass the can of dirt and cilantro please” instead of please pass the salt and pepper. Check them out at Backtotheroots.com.
If you have been around for a while, then you might remember when I found all these cans of food? Read about it One Stop Shopping. I even had a nice little video to go with it!
I truly enjoy my daily afternoon can of Soda. I like to mix it up between Diet Dr. Pepper and Diet Pepsi. And yes, I know how BAD it is for me. I eat about 10 pounds of greens a day, so I am banking on all the greens canceling out my bad habit.
I also really like these cans. CeCe Caldwell’s 100% Natural Chalk and Clay Based Paints, Stains, and Finishes all come in cans. I like to have a few hanging out on my kitchen counter every day. Even if I am not painting something, their presence makes me “feel” like I am about to get something creative done. I am not sure Suffering Husband shares this love of the cans hanging about too.
Do you know the best kind of can there is? The Garbage Can! The best things can be found where people like to put things they don’t want to see again. Me? I like to drive around on garbage day and hunt for things hanging outside of the can!
This week, I found this giant framed baby picture. The picture is disguised because the baby in this picture may or may not be reading this post. Why take chances?
And for the rest of the story, things that don’t come in cans. I found a large selection of frames this week, (some are from a few weeks ago, but who keeps track?)
I drove by a garage sale on Saturday and out front was a table marked “FREE”. Everything on it was really free. I helped myself to this Jar:
This bowl was a regular glass bowl, I spray painted it with a “can” of silver metallic spray paint and then used a light duty scrubby sponge to make the paint come off.
That’s it for Trashy Tuesday. This post is now in the can.
