Free French Table Goes Gold Glam!! In my own weird world, there would be a newspaper headline floating above my head every time I finished a project I was particularly pleased with. My Free French Table would be front page news in the Daily Redoux Examiner (Maybe it should be called the Daily Redoux get your head examinered…..)
If you frequent my weekly series Trashy Tuesday, table of the dumpster, you might recall this table I found FOR FREE on my morning shopping for free trip.
It was so shiny I could almost see my glowing reflection in its surface. Instead of endless sanding, I just needed to knock that gloss back I bit. I use a liquid Deglosser/Sander. In my mind, every brand is about the same. I rarely use these products. My beloved CeCe Caldwell’s paints will stick to just about any surface without sanding or priming, even glass! However in this situation…I decided to play it safe.
After the deglosser had knocked the shine back I used one full coat of Modern Masters Metallic Antique Gold Paint. I love this color for a base coat, or with a glaze over it. Fun for some glam.
I didn’t worry about complete coverage because I had more gold to get to. For the top coat, I mixed 1 part CeCe California Gold with 2 parts Johnston Daffodil. I wanted a light goldish/yellow color, but not pastel. When this coat was dry, I turned to a distressing situation. Not a distressing as in stressful, distressing as in a damp rag and some sand paper. I used the damp rag to do some wet distressing and the 320 sandpaper in other areas to really smooth and burnish my surface. Can you see the gold metallic coming through? The dark aging on the edges is CeCe C aldwell’s Aging Cream.
When my gold was sufficiently tarnished and shiny in all the right places, I added some more bling. Have you tried CeCe Caldwells 100% natural metallic waxes? They are the latest thing. Truly. I mixed the Gold with a bit of the Aging Cream and highlighted all the right places. My leg is looking lovely. (Table leg that is, mine is probably full of bruises from banging into furniture all day)
And voila, the finished table. My Free French Table will be heading to Paris Flea Market, in Livermore, CA next weekend for our May Sale! May 1st-4th. Don’t miss it!
